MUHURTHA FOR TRAVEL

Journeys, in general, is of two types. They are long distance and short distance travel.

Journey can also be classified into different types basing on the purpose of travel. The purpose can be for war, trade, pilgrimage, routine journeys or for some unexpected works.

Foe routine journeys there is o need for muhurta. For journeys proper muhurta should be chosen.

PANCHANGA SUDDHI:

Proper tithi, vaara, nakshatra, yoga and karmas should be selected.

  1. Tithi: 2/3/5/7/10/11/13 tithis of both halfs are good

Avoid Rikta tithis ( 4/9/14), Amavasys, Poornima, Sukla Pratipada, Sashti, Astami, Dwadasi are to be avoided.

  1. Vaara: Thursday abd Friday are best days, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday are medium, Saturday and Thursday should be avoided.
  2. Nakshatra: Hasta, Aswini, Pushyami, Mirgasira, Revati ,Anuradha, Sravana, Dhanista,Punarvasu are considered the best( total 9 stars)

Uttara Trayam and Rohini are medium, others are not good

Arudra, Shatabisham, Chitta and Moola should be avoided.

If it is urgent to travel in other Nakshatras then a particular period of Nakshatra should be avoided as shown in the table:

Benefic Stars:   Hasta, Aswini, Pushyami, Mirgasira, Revati, Anuradha, Sravana, Dhanista,Punarvasu are considered the best( total 9 stars)

Medium Stars:  Uttara Trayam and Rohini

Stars to be avoided completely : Arudra, Shatabisham, Chitta and Moola

Other Nakshatras:       Poorva Trayam _         Avoid first six (ghatis) ie. 6 hours 24 mins

Krittika              _          Avoid first 21 ghatis     ie. 8 hours 24 mins

Makha             _          Avoid 11 ghatis ie 4 hours 24 mins

Bhaarni            _          Avoid first 7 ghatis ie 2 hours and 48 mins.

Swati,Visaka Jyesta, Aslesha – Avoid first 14 ghatis – ie. 5 hours 36 mins

  1. Yoga: Malific yogas like Ganda, Athiganda, Sula        ( G A S )

Vajra, Vyaghala, Vyatipata, Vishkumbha,Vaidhruta, Variyan   ( 6 V’s )

  1. Karnas: All Chara karmas except “ VISHTI “karma are good.

 

CHANDRA NIVASA:

This is also called “ SAHMUKHA CHANDRA”   ( MOON IN FORNT )

Sammukha Chandra means Moon in the direction of the travel.

There are 4 directions . EAST, WWEST, NORTH AND SOUTH

If Moon is placed in the direction of the travel, it clears “ DOSHAS “ and gives good results.

There are 12 signs in the Zodiac

The FIREY signs indicate EAST

The EARTHY signs indicate SOUTH

The AIRY signs indicates WEST

The WATERY signs indicates NORTH

Moon in FRONT direction gives –          financial gains and happiness

Moon in RIGHT direction gives –           material gains

Moon in LEFT direction gives –              financial loss

Hence the direction of the Moon with respect to the direction of the travel should be verified. If it is not possible to select good muhurta, it is advisable to verify the direction of Moon

SAMMUKHA SUKRA      ( VENUS IN FRONT)

Venus rises in the East when its longitude is less than that of “ SUN”

Venus rises in West when its longitude is more than that of “ SUN”

When Venus in East , Journey towards East – should be avoided. Similarly when Venus is rising in the West journey towards West to be avoided.

Venus should not be towards right side of the direction of travel.

 

When Venus is in East Direction, travel towards NW, NORTH, N E,EN should be avoided. (x)

THRIVIDHA NAVAMI:    ( THREE TYPES OF NAVAMI )

There are three types of Navami, They are ‘Prayana Navami’ , “Pravesha Navam “ and

“ Pratyaksha Navami”

One should not travel on 9th day after coming home – this is “ Prayana Navami”

One should not come back home on the 9th day after starting from home – this is “ Pravesha Navami “

On Navami tithi one should not under take journey – this is “ Pratyaksha Navami “

 

UNFAVORABLE PERIOD FOR TRAVEL:

In the following situations one should not travel.

  1. When there is a fire accident to own house
  2. When there is a conflict with wife
  3. At the time of puberty of wife
  4. In between two fixed auspicious functions
  5. When there is Jatasoucham or Mritasoucham
  6. During the 8th month from the birth month
  7. Within one year from the death of parents
  8. On the next day of the yearly ceremony of father or mother

9. When wife is pregnant ( after 7th month )
